Things are looking up; the wet winter did its part to give us a glorious spring. The fields and empty lots are bright with Blue Bonnets, Indian Blanket and sunflowers, out here, in the vieux carrĂ© (French for, “More cops than sidewalks”), but a true sign that spring is well under way is Dan’s annual “Rumble by the River”.
The Rumble features fine music by talented local singer/song writers and fine barbecue by the United States Military Vets MC.
I joked about them needing some camouflage net overhead in order to relax, but that may have been a reaction to last year’s sun and 90°F. /32.2°C. heat.
It sure wasn’t their first rodeo, they had their pits smoking chicken and sausage, hungry people were soon enjoying good eats while helping the club raise funds for their charitable projects.
Good weather sure didn’t hurt turn out, motorcycles and tents reached capacity in the main lot and overflowed to one adjoining. This fellow’s reverse quit on him while he was trying to get parked. It happens.
Soon enough Dan and his guys, aka the band, “Johnson Grass” kicked things off.
They always do a top-notch job but it didn’t hurt that they had the best sound man in this part of the world to run the PA gear.
Our friend, the lovely and talented, Steffan, just seemed to let the sound take her away
(to plagiarize Steppenwolf) while others seemed to follow more intently.
No one was unmoved, not by Johnson Grass or any of the artists that participated that night. After all, fine music is one of the things for which Texas is well known
The weather stayed on the cool side of 80°F, but that aforementioned net paid off mid-afternoon.
There were more bands more singer/songwriters, this year, as well as the regular supporters of the event.

The Rumble isn’t just a listening thing, either. This beautiful 1965 Norton attracted its fair shared of attention.
Day ended long before the music did.
Finally, the knob was pulled, as the saying goes, but acoustic guitarists and die-hard revelers were encircling the rejuvenated campfire even as we legging it for the truck.
